The Balfour House was the home of R.C. Balfour, who owned and operated the Pearl Saloon in Downtown Thomasville. When prohibition came to Thomas County in 1899, not 1919 like most of the country, Balfour created Georgia Crate and Basket, which survives today. Balfour’s sons branched off from the business and created Balfour Lumber Co. Each piece of lumber in the Balfour home (c. 1900) was hand-picked.
