The Thomasville First United Methodist Church was built in 1885 in the Victorian Gothic manner. The original
Methodist church on this site was a wooden structure that was damaged when it was used as a hospital for
Union and Confederate troops. This is the third Methodist Church built on this site, and was attended by
William McKinley during his 1895 and 1899 visits to Thomasville. It was said so many parishioners felt
comfortable around McKinley, it was more like a visit from a brother than a President of the United States.
